Company Accountant

We are looking for a skilled accountant who will be responsible for managing financial records, ensuring compliance with regulations, and supporting our company's financial goals. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, has excellent analytical skills, and can work both independently and as part of a diverse team.

Migdale Smolt Ltd is a leading freshwater salmon farming company dedicated to producing the highest quality smolts for our clients throughout Scotland. Established 35 years ago, we are a family-run business that has expanded to include Migdale Transport Ltd, a vital player in the aquaculture industry. Migdale Transport Ltd specialises in live fish transport solutions for the fish farming industry across mainland UK, the Orkney Isles, Shetland Isles, Western Isles, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Faroe Isles, and France. We transport farmed Atlantic Salmon, Rainbow Trout, Lumpfish, and Wrasse by road and sea. We are currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented accountant to join our team and contribute to the financial success of Migdale Group Ltd.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update financial records, including ledgers, accounts payable/receivable, and
    payroll.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant rules and regulations.
  • Assist in budget preparation and financial forecasting.
  • Analyse financial data and provide insights to management.
  • Collaborate with external auditors during annual audits.
  • Manage tax filings and ensure timely payments.
  • Identify and implement process improvements for greater efficiency.
  • Other responsibilities as required by the Managing Director.
Requirements

Qualifications
Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in accounting or finance.
  • Proficiency in accounting software - Microsoft Office Suite and Sage 50 accounting software.
  • Strong understanding of UK accounting principles and financial regulations.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred

  •  Excellent IT skills and experience
