These new posts have arisen as a result of Primary Care Modernisation and directly from the actions outlined in the Mental Health Strategy (2017-2027). The posts are available across NHS Highland (North) as detailed above and are aligned to GP Cluster Areas there in.
The post will involve working within the recently established Primary Care Mental Health Service and will provide an exciting challenge to the successful applicants. You will be expected to work within a Multi-disciplinary community based team in partnership with GP, Primary Care colleagues , 3rd sector and CMHT colleagues, in providing and supervising assessment, risk management, and the delivery of psychological interventions with individuals who present with mild to moderate mental health problems such as depression, anxiety and adjustment disorder, using strength based recovery focused approach that involves the patient as a partner in their treatment planning. The post holder is required to undertake duties without direct supervision as well as supporting and supervising work undertaken by others.
Responsibility for proactively promoting partnership working with patients, carers and other professionals/ agencies in line with legislative frameworks, agreed standards and clinical policies is integral to the job. This will involve working in the local GP surgeries and on occasions in other community environments. The service will provide sessional input to GP practices within NHS Highland (North) and form an integral part of the provision of mental health care at Tier 1 level. It is expected that some of this input will be on a virtual basis so confidence in using virtual platforms is a requirement.
Provision of high standards of patient centred care and interventions should come easy to you and you will display excellent clinical skills, leadership, facilitated learning and service improvement skills. This will ensure the best possible outcomes for patients in our care.
Other key functions include supervising the practice of others, monitoring/undertaking mentorship responsibilities and supporting the team leader in the ongoing learning and development of the staff team and the Primary Care Mental Health Team key functions. The post holder is required to hold relevant post-registration qualification i.e. BA, BSc, Diploma in Mental Health Nursing as well as evidence of experience in delivering psychological therapies. Practitioners with formal degree level qualifications in a related subject with evidence of delivering psychological therapies, and registration with an appropriate professional body, will also be considered for these posts. A driving license and access to own vehicle is essential.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
