Job Description Summary

Will use their strong knowledge and expertise in a variety of methodologies and toolsets to assist with designing, building and unit testing code to deliver products that are fit for purpose and meet the quality standards that our customers expect. Working in one of our cross-disciplinary teams engineers will have the opportunity to develop their technical knowledge and understanding as well develop, practice and demonstrate the workplace skills and behaviours required for this job role. They will also join and attend Communities of Practice, Engineering Guilds and Working Groups to deliver peer-to-peer mentoring.

Salary: £45,954 - £51,060

Location: Edinburgh

Hours: Full time

Working Pattern: At least 2 days per week in our Edinburgh office.

About this opportunity

In the Payments Services Platform (PSP), our mission is to provide compliant and efficient domestic and international payments capabilities for the Group and drive innovation to enable customers to move money confidently, quickly and securely. This role is in the Enterprise & Accounting Lab within the Payments Platform and specifically in the Data Product team. The Data Product team sits at the heart of payments. We build products around payments data using cutting edge technologies and agile ways of working.

As a Software Engineer, you’ll:

  • Work in cross-disciplinary teams delivering exciting customer driven solutions and high quality software showcasing your technical, interpersonal and communication skills whilst supporting the software across the product lifecycle

  • Work with a range of key stakeholders, external partners and our internal development and testing teams, to support the successful achievement of IT strategies.

  • Have a mindset of continuous learning, mentoring and keeping abreast of latest development in technology and engineering practices

What you’ll need

You would have a breadth of experience across the following software technologies:

  • Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, Relational Databases, NoSQL databases

  • REST APIs, JSON, XML, SQL

  • Understanding of Git, source code management and managing change

  • Understanding of cloud technologies including Docker and Kubernetes

  • An understanding of the entire application stack and proficiency in designing MicroServices

  • Knowledge of agile development practices, continuous integration, and test automation (TDD, BDD, Selenium)

  • Understanding of how to design low-latency, high-availability, and performant applications.

  • Practical experience building and deploying Java Microservices to a cloud environment

  • Practical knowledge of CI/CD, Jenkins and related devops tools

  • Practical experience with agile ways of working and related tools such as JIRA and Confluence
