A vacancy has become available for a clinical scientist to join our small, but very busy department supporting specialist cancer services to the Highlands & Islands of Scotland. The department is equipped with two Varian Truebeam Linear Accelerators and a Siemens Somatom Confidence RT Pro CT Scanner. All machines are equipped with VisionRT Surface Guidance. We also have access to both MRI and PET-CT. The RayStation Treatment Planning system is in use and transit dosimetry via RadCalc EPID is routinely provided for all TPS-based plans. RayCare will be installed this year to replace the current Aria Oncology Management System.

The postholder will contribute to the wider radiotherapy physics service and be expected to contribute to and lead development project work. Current development interests include surface guidance and transit dosimetry, with the department currently actively working with manufacturers on product development. The move to RayCare this year will provide a further area of development but the post-holder would be encouraged to develop other areas of specific interest to them.

Inverness is the capital city of the Highlands and offers a high standard of living in an area of outstanding wildlife and natural beauty, providing an ideal base for pursuing many outdoor activities within the Highlands and Islands area.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
