Band 7 - £46, 244 – £53, 789

Plus £1,279 Distant Islands Allowance

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a significantly experienced, highly motivated and dynamic person to work within NHS Western Isles as a Community Senior Charge Nurse to lead the Uist Community Nursing Team.  The successful applicant will provide overall clinical, professional leadership and operational management to a team comprising of District Nurses, Staff nurses and Healthcare Assistants.


We seek an enthusiastic, nurse leader with excellent interpersonal, leadership and organisational skills who can demonstrate a breath of knowledge and experience in this area of practice, as detailed in the Scottish Government Transferring Roles Paper 3.


A sound knowledge and evidence of effective individual staff management and good team leading skills are essential. The post holder will be a clinically visible leader who works closely with the wider nursing and multidisciplinary team to ensure that the delivery of effective and appropriate care is provided to the population within their geographical area including care of patients at home, care homes and CTAC centres.


They will report to the Lead Community Nurse to ensure that Nursing services are delivered effectively and efficiently against pre-determined clinical and service development targets in line with national and local board delivery plans, policies and agendas.


The successful applicant will be required to register with the PVG Scheme (Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme). This post is not eligible for relocation expenses.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
