Job Summary:
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the ARI Practice Education and Development team for a Band 6 Practice Educator within the critical care team. This role involves supporting and developing staff and students' educational needs initially for a duration of one year.
Applicants should have completed the intensive care pathway or equivalent and possess a minimum of two years' experience in a critical care environment such as Intensive Care Unit, High Dependency Unit, Coronary Care Unit and Cardiothoracic Care Unit.

The post-holder should demonstrate excellent care values, enthusiasm to work as part of a team, and the motivation to learn and develop themselves and colleagues within an exciting and challenging high-pressure environment. We are seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking individual focused on providing safe, effective, person-centred practice.
Applicants should be a Registered Nurse with current NMC registration and:
- Have extensive experience in critical care as listed above, with a post-registration critical care qualification or equivalent.
- Have knowledge or an awareness of the educational pathways in a critical care area.
- Have substantial experience at Band 5 or above in roles that included supporting, supervising, and assessing learners.
- Should currently be a Practice Supervisor/Practice Assessor.
- Demonstrate the ability to motivate and influence change using highly developed interpersonal and diplomacy skills.
Desirable qualifications include a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching or relevant recognised education qualification, or a willingness to work towards such.
The post-holder will work closely with and be supported by the Senior Practice Education & Development Team.
Unit Overview:
The base site for this role will be Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI), covering general ICU (merged with Medical HDU), Cardiac ICU, Surgical HDU, and the Hyperbaric Unit, which houses the only Category 1 Hyperbaric Chamber in Scotland.

Main Duties:
- Delegate, coordinate, and supervise all education on the Unit.
- Provide expert tuition, support, and guidance for nursing, medical students, and other multidisciplinary team members working with critically ill patients.
- Assess learning needs required by staff to fulfil their roles in Critical Care, aligned with the Unit's service provision plans.
- Develop, implement, organise, and evaluate learning resources/competencies and other staff development programmes to meet the Unit's and individuals' learning needs.
- Monitor staff compliance with training requirements and maintain appropriate documentation on staff progress and achievements.
