Befrienders Part Time Project Worker (Cowal and Bute OR Helensburgh and Lomond)

Argyll and Bute Befrienders SCIO are seeking two Project Workers to join our team - one for Cowal and Bute and one for Helensburgh and Lomond. This role involves recruiting, training and supporting local volunteer befrienders and engaging with families and partner agencies to ensure that children and young people recieve the support they need.

Argyll and Bute Befrienders SCIO is a well-established charity supporting children and young people across Argyll and Bute since 1988. Our dedicated volunteers make a positive impact in the lives of vulnerable children, helping them build confidence, develop social skills, and connect with supportive adults in their communities.

Role Overview:

We are seeking two part time compassionate and organised Project Workers to join our team. This role involves recruiting, training and supporting volunteer befrienders who provide crucial emotional and social support to children and young people aged 6-18. You’ll be working closely with families, volunteers, and partner agencies to ensure that the children we support have access to fun activities, new opportunities, and consistent, caring relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

Support and supervise a team of volunteer befrienders.
Manage a caseload of befriending matches, ensuring positive outcomes for children and young people.
Engage with families and partner agencies to assess and address individual needs.
Organise and participate in awareness-raising events and campaigns.
Maintain accurate, confidential records and report on service activities.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Educated to SCQF level 9
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working directly with children, young people, or families.
  • Excellent organisational, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and handle sensitive situations with patience and kindness.
  • Full driving license and access to a car.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, equality, and diversity.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of GIRFEC (Getting it Right for Every Child) strategy.
  • Experience in recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers.
  • Knowledge of local support services for children and families.
  • Advanced working knowledge of MS Office software (including Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint)
