JOB TITLE: Senior Software Engineer - Android, Gamification

SALARY: £68,202 - £83,358

LOCATION: Dundee

HOURS: Full-time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at our Dundee Office.

Please note, to make the most of our training, it would be ideal if you can commit to the start date above and be able to attend the 9 week training programme full time - however this not essential.
 

About this opportunity

We launched the Dundee Tech School in November 2023 with the first cohort of 12 Junior Developers who underwent a 20-week Engineering training programme before joining their business teams under supervision of the Tech School Lead.  Following its’ success, we’re now looking to recruit approx. 20 more roles that will make up 2 teams to deliver our Gamification initiative.

As part of our Dundee based Tech School cohort, you will be supported in upskilling through a structured 9-week training programme before becoming an integral part of a feature team within our Customer Waterfront Lab evolving our Digital Channels.

What you’ll need
 

  • Professional working knowledge in building a mobile experience for variable screen sizes in variable versions of Android
  • Strong knowledge of Android SDK, Android UI design principles, patterns, and best practices
  • Experience in Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, co-routines and performance tuning
  • Fantastic knowledge of the open-source Android ecosystem and the libraries available for common tasks and benchmarking and optimisation
  • Proficient in Google's Android design principles, interface guidelines and code versioning tools, such as Git
  • Hands-on experience of continuous delivery across areas such as code reviewing; understanding of App architectures (i.e. MVVM, MVI) and you’ll be confident with best practices libraries
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Passion for mobile app development and eagerness to learn 


And any experience of these would be really useful
 

  • Cloud message APIs and push notifications
  • JavaScript WebView bridging, as well as knowledge of RESTful APIs and web services
  • Android Architecture Components
  • Building and shipping a hobby or commercial Android application 
  • An interest in gamification and/or engaging educational content 
  • Over 4 years experience developing commercial Android Applications
