Orkney Health and Social Care Partnership is committed to improving outcomes for our children, young people and families, and to delivering Scotland’s Promise.

We are seeking to appoint an exceptional individual to the post of Team Manager within the Children and Families team, with specific responsibility for our fostering, adoption, kinship, and through care/after care work.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual with considerable experience of working within a children and families setting. You will also have experience of managing a team and will be willing to take on the challenge of managing a developing team and service.

In addition, the Team Manager will have the ability to support and develop staff to ensure services are delivered to the highest standard and will be a key contributor to the broader development of Social Work services in Orkney.

We have invested time and finances into our approaches, including developing social pedagogy and systemic practice along with an ambition to be trauma informed across the service. We are committed to encouraging and supporting our staff to develop their career through local and national training opportunities and have a continuing professional development pathway which focuses on supporting social workers to progress their professional knowledge and skill in line with their personal aspirations.

We are seeking someone with strong communication and interpersonal skills who has the ability to manage change and contribute to policy development. You will demonstrate an ability to establish positive relationships with our partner agencies and be able to maintain them for the benefit of the children of Orkney.

Living in Orkney brings its own benefits, being an archipelago of 70 beautiful islands, of which 17 are inhabited. As a genuinely wonderful place to live, Orkney offers unique wildlife, amazing scenery and real opportunity to experience a wide range of cultural and sporting activities. There is something for everyone; state-of-the-art leisure facilities, various clubs and societies, and an excellent education system creates our strong community spirit. It’s no surprise that Orkney has been voted the best place to live in Scotland for eight years running.

You will be qualified in Social Work (degree, post graduate diploma or equivalent), have over 5 years previous relevant experience and be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council.

Requirements

This post is subject to membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme in respect of regulated work with adults and children. It is an offence therefore to apply if you are barred from working with children and protected adults. In addition to this, if you have lived or worked in any country outside the UK in the past 10 years, there may be a requirement for an overseas police check.

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.

Closing Date: Sunday 6 October 2024

Please note that interview and relocation expenses will be paid for this post in accordance with Council Policy.
