40 hours including out of hours commitment
Fixed Term for 12 months
Applications are invited for an innovative post across acute medicine and palliative care.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a specialty doctor, or an OOPT in almost any specialty.
You will work in the acute medical admissions unit at senior middle grade level. You will have the opportunity to manage a range of acute medical problems and to develop your clinical leadership within these areas. You will have the opportunity to develop clinical skills aligned with acute medicine and to practice them regularly. You will be expected to manage patients as a senior decision maker under the guidance of a consultant physician.
You will also work with the Palliative Care team across the hospital focussing on patients in the last three months of their life. You will be supporting these patients on an ongoing basis, linking them in to community resources as well as managing their symptoms and aiming to improve outcomes. A significant number of these patients enter the hospital through the acute medical unit hence the integration of the two aspects of the post will be so valuable.
This is a new, trial, post as a quality improvement initiative. As such you will be expected to develop the post along QI principles and present the evidence for doing so. You will be supported in doing this.
Applicants must have full GMC registration with a licence to practice and be at the level equivalent to ST3 or higher.
Informal enquiries will be welcomed by Dr Claire Vincent, Consultant in Acute Medicine or Dr Gordon Linklater, Consultant in Palliative Care.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
