Are you looking for something a bit different? Are you keen to make in important contribution to developing psychological services? Are you keen to advance your career in Psychology?

We are looking forward to working with somebody who can help us develop the psychology service for adults living in the Western Isles. This is an exciting job, and will be hard work, but really stimulating, especially as it will involve all aspects of delivering a psychology service. You will be delivering assessments to a range of patients (across different mental health and learning disabilities specialties) as well as delivering training to multi-disciplinary team colleagues, advising colleagues on clinical governance issues and working closely with NHS Education for Scotland. We are looking for someone who will work well in a multi-disciplinary team context, liaising with members of other disciplines, especially GPs and colleagues in primary care and the voluntary sector. The post requires a broad range of clinical skills, because when working in a remote and rural area, one has fewer options for onward referrals, so it is important to find someone who will strive to find the balance between generalist and specialist roles and will aim to utilise support from mainland colleagues. We are happy to offer candidates flexibility to develop specialisms based on their interests and development needs. Can you see yourself in this role? Please get in touch.

The main working base is Western Isles Hospital in the town of Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis, though in order to meet the needs of a wide rural community, psychological therapies and services are routinely delivered remotely.

Applicants must be car drivers and in possession of a full UK driving licence. This post is eligible for relocation expenses.

The successful applicant will be required to register with the PVG Scheme (Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme).

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
