Location: Royal Cornhill Hospital, Cornhill Road, Aberdeen
Duration: Permanent, Full Time
Aberdeen City Council is currently in discussions with Trade Unions regarding a proposal to move from a standard 37-hour full-time working week to a standard 35-hour full-time working week.
Please note: A decision has been reached, in consultation with our Trade Unions, that all new vacancies will be advertised on a maximum of 35 hours per week, and accordingly, new appointments made on a contract of 35 hours per week.
Roles that require PVG Membership
Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £30,727 per annum / £15.97 per hour)
The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.
About the Role:
To undertake all statutory duties as required by legislation and deliver a statutory social work service to adults with substance use problems as part of the Integrated Alcohol Service (IAS).
The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:
Professional Social Work Qualification (BA Social Work qualification or equivalent
DipSW, CQSW)
SSSC Registration
PVG
The postholder is able to demonstrate:
Skills & Experience in:
Ability to relate to and work with a wide range of professionals, service users
and carers including dealing with people in crisis who are distressed, or unwell
with a wide range of complex needs
Ability to manage risk
Ability to assess and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with
a range of individuals including service users and other professionals
The ability to manage constant and often conflicting demands, manage
priorities, time and meet deadlines
Interviewing, investigation and assessment skills
Counselling and support skills
Decision making skills, responsibility for own practice, seeking advice and
support as necessary
Ability to maintain an outcome focus
Ability to use financial resources appropriately
Understanding of:
Practice, policy and procedure relevant to the post
Adult and Child Protection
Anti-discriminatory practice
Working directly with service users in crisis, their families and carers
ICT systems and office procedures including administration and using computer
packages including Microsoft office
Commitment to:
Adult Support and Protection training up to level 4 (Council Officer)
Training in relevant legislation to meet the requirements of the post
D365
Online interactive learning, including; For Your Eyes Only (ICT security),
Protecting Children, Data Protection
