NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

A unique opportunity has arisen within the Wester Ross Midwifery Team for the post of midwife case holder (Band 6). We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated midwife to join our small and friendly team.

The Wester Ross Midwifery Team covers the stunning North West Coast of NHS Highland, with bases across Wester Ross and up into North West Sutherland. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty with coastal communities separated by hills, mountains and sea lochs. It is ideal for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits and for those who want to integrate and become a part of a close knit community.

Working within this vast, sparsely populated but beautiful geography will allow you opportunities for great continuity of care antenatally and postnatally, often following women and families through more than one pregnancy. The majority of women birth in the regional unit of Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced midwife who is keen to practice midwife-led care and develop as an autonomous practitioner. Risk Management, communication and triage skills, flexibility and being a good team player are essential when working in a remote and rural environment.

The service runs 0900-1700 Monday to Sunday with a 24/7 commitment for home births when booked.

A current driving licence is essential and you will be expected to travel, sometimes extensively, between various work locations to meet the operational requirements of the service.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
