BAND 4 HEALTHCARE SCIENTIST ASSISTANT

37.0 hours/week

Applications are invited for a full time Band 4 Healthcare Scientist Assistant in the Aberdeen Genetics and Molecular Pathology Laboratory – a UKAS accredited member laboratory of the Scottish Genomics Network, funded by the National Services Division. 

Experience and qualifications

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with appropriate qualifications and experience.  The Vocational Qualification Level 3 in a biological science or laboratory skills in Life Science discipline and previous practical laboratory experience are essential requirements.

The postholder will provide routine technical support for the genetic service, undertake a range of technical laboratory duties including preparation of a variety of solutions and media, culturing and harvesting blood, prenatal and oncology samples for chromosome analysis and extracting high quality DNA and RNA from a range of pathological specimens.

Applicants must be comfortable using a computer and automation, be flexible and able to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team. An interest in genetics and a laboratory-based role performing genetic laboratory techniques to deliver patient care are essential.

Excellent communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, and ability to follow standard operating procedures are also requirements of these posts.  Previous experience in NHS or clinical healthcare laboratories will be advantageous.

There will be considerable interaction with other staff groups within the department including administrative, technical and scientific staff. 

The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm.
