Hours: 37 hours per week. Location: Medical Microbiology Department, Royal Infirmary.


Applications are invited from Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Biomedical Scientists for this full-time and permanent post in the Microbiology (including Virology) Department at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. The Department is registered by both HCPC and IBMS as a training laboratory.


Candidates with an IBMS accredited BSc (Honours) degree in Biomedical Science (or equivalent) leading to HCPC registration will be considered.


This department has UKAS accreditation to ISO 15189 standard. It provides a comprehensive diagnostic microbiology (including virology) service to NHS Grampian, NHS Orkney and NHS Shetland. The post holder will therefore be expected to have a firm understanding of the full range of diagnostic procedures carried out within the department. Participation in CPD activities is mandatory and progression to attaining the IBMS Specialist qualification is essential.
