Senior Charge Nurse Surgical Ward/ DSU


Band 7 £48,788 - £56,747 per annum

Plus Distant Islands Allowance of £1,349 per annum

37 hours per week

Fixed Term Contract/Secondment until 09th November 2025 to cover maternity leave

We are looking for a highly motivated experienced nurse to manage our surgical ward and day surgery unit at the Western Isles Hospital, Stornoway on a fixed term contract or secondment until November 2025 to cover for maternity leave of the existing postholder.

This busy 18 bedded surgical ward provides care for acute and elective General Surgical in-patients, gynaecology and urology cases.  We also have an established orthopaedic service with elective and trauma work being undertaken. The postholder will be keen to evolve and devlop existing services using a quality improvement approach

DSU has 14 spaces and provides houses the endoscopy unit and minor ops theatre as well as orthopaedics, general surgical, gynaecology, urology and eyes theatre lists.

You will have overall clinical, professional and managerial responsibility for the ward on a 24-hr basis.

Applicants should have RN1 Adult level registration with the NMC, a health-related degree as well as extensive clinical experience including evidence of management experience

The post demands excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.  A sound knowledge of effective individual staff management and good team leading skills are essential.
