Graduates will follow either a generalist or specialist pathway depending on your chosen team and degree discipline. Generalists will gain exposure across multiple departments, gaining a breadth of knowledge to return to your ‘home’ team. Specialists will work with experts in their specialism, gaining exposure within a business area for the duration of the programme and a depth of knowledge to utilise in their substantive post. Both pathways have the aim of providing relevant experience that will lead to a substantive post.

About our Teams

HVDC: HVDC (High-voltage direct current) is the most efficient way to transport electricity over long distances, and it is particularly beneficial for subsea transmission. Due to the increasing need to connect more remote renewable generation schemes, such as offshore wind farms, SSEN Transmission are working on a significant number of new HVDC schemes deployed in Great Britain over the coming years.

This also includes work on our Eastern Green Link projects - planned HVDC submarine power cables from the East coast of Scotland to Northeast England to strengthen the National Grid. The two links combined will deliver 4 GW of renewable energy from Scottish wind farms to England. This is a Specialist Pathway seeking degrees in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.

Project Engineering: Project Engineering is a core technical department within SSEN Transmission. Our Graduate programme will prepare you for a challenging and exciting career at the centre of the transition to Net Zero. You will receive training to work on multimillion pound infrastructure projects covering innovations that will allow us to meet these technological challenges.

Year one of the programme will focus on providing you will the foundations of technical and business experience which you will build on in your second year with a focus on design and project experience. This is a Generalist pathway, seeking graduates with degrees in Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Material Science, and Civil Engineering.
