Why Choose Our Internship Programme?
Embark on a unique, challenging, and rewarding journey with abrdn. Our summer internship offers you the chance to work within our Adviser business. Here, you’ll engage in real projects, collaborate with talented professionals, and develop skills that will enhance your career.
What You'll Do
The Programme is carefully designed so you can work towards the career you want. We offer two pathways within the Adviser academy: Business Management or Actuarial Science Business Management. The aim of the programme is to give you an understanding of abrdn’s Adviser business, the different teams that operate within it and how we best serve our clients. Whether you are managing people, speaking to clients directly or immersed in change management you will receive training and coaching throughout.
Our broad capabilities allow us to offer placements across a variety of different areas, including:
- Business Intelligence & Analysis
- Client Engagement
- Control
- Anti-Financial Crime
- Marketing
- Project Management & Change
- Proposition
- Sales
Throughout the programme, you can access e-learning courses, a structured development plan, and networking opportunities with senior leaders.
What We Look For
We are looking for students in their penultimate year from diverse academic backgrounds. Ideal candidates are performance-driven, client-focused, collaborative, strategic thinkers with a futurist mindset. Demonstrating inclusive and empowering leadership is essential.
In addition, applicants for the Actuarial Science internship should be highly numerate and analytical, with good commercial awareness, excellent communication skills and strong attention to detail. Applicants should be studying towards a numerical or STEM based degree.
Our Graduate Programme
Upon completing your internship, you’ll be considered for our graduate programme, starting in September 2026. This offers a supportive environment to gain skills, experience, and industry qualifications. We will support you and help navigate what qualification is best suited for you. Our graduate programme focuses on developing our talent to give the best possible start to their career and support aspirations to be the future leaders of abrdn. Our development curriculum focuses on 3 key learning mindsets- Client, Leadership & Strategic. Through engaging content, group coaching and learning experiences these mindsets will develop your capability and equip you with the skills and knowledge to set you up for success in your career.
Actuarial provides natural problem solvers with the opportunity and support to become an IFoA qualified actuary. Our programme lasts between three and six years; giving you insight into our Adviser business and beyond, whilst developing both your technical and softer skills. Working as an actuarial trainee in an asset manager means placements will differ from the more traditional roles in life and pensions companies. Actuarial roles within abrdn are grounded in an ability to see the bigger picture; you will be expected to apply actuarial techniques to non-standard scenarios, with a focus on clearly communicating meaningful insights with non-actuarial colleagues to help shape what we do and how.
Our Commitment to Inclusion
abrdn is dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where diversity is valued. As a Disability Confident Committed Level One employer, we welcome applications from all backgrounds and provide support throughout the recruitment process.
