Help us create a better future, quicker
ScottishPower’s Customer Business Regulation Team is growing to support the evolution within the energy market, including the transition to net zero. You can help in that by supporting the Customer Business influence the evolving policy and regulatory framework and define its strategic approach within that framework.
What you’ll be doing
We’re recruiting for regulatory experts with the skills and experience we need to help us shape the regulatory environment in which ScottishPower’s Customer Business operates. We’re looking for a Lead Regulation Manager with the experience to operate across all of the Customer Business’s regulatory activity to ensure that the Regulation Team is resilient to the evolving needs of the business and the market, both now and in the future, and can react as required in short timescales both to internal needs, and external requests.
Reporting to the Head of Regulation, and acting as their deputy on cross team issues, you’ll have the vision and expertise to understand complex, evolving and often inter-linked regulatory proposals, including related to those areas that are supporting development of products and services needed to transition to net zero.
In this high profile role you’ll engage with senior management in ScottishPower including at CEO and Director level, providing advice and guidance to ensure ongoing compliance and support development of new products and services aligned to our strategy for the future energy retail market. You’ll also engage externally with Ofgem, Government and other third parties at a senior level, drafting often public responses to key Government and regulatory consultation documents and papers, to ensure that ScottishPower’s position is presented externally to minimise risk, develop opportunities and support ScottishPower Group objectives. You’ll also develop strong working relationships with officials to understand their thinking and identify win-win opportunities for ScottishPower.
Using your excellent analytical skills, you’ll have the vision to identify the potential impact of any regulatory proposals including understanding and reacting to those interactions. As well as influencing regulatory policy to support our business aims, this will enable you to help us gain maximum benefit from regulatory changes.
You’ll have an oversight across the activities of the full Regulation Team, and will lead within the team on co-ordination and management of regulatory risk management and reporting activities to ensure we meet our regulatory obligations and react to and mitigate risk appropriately. The Lead Regulation Manager will also have responsibility for the management and resource allocation of a team of analysts and senior analysts and will support the Head of Regulation in developing a robust and resilient skillset within the analyst pools to support a more agile approach to our regulatory activity.
What you’ll bring
Educated to degree level or demonstrable experience of working in high pressure environment to tight deadlines. You’ll be highly literate with experience of creating and influencing change at organisation and industry level with proven ability to communicate effectively including providing strong directional support to Directors and senior management. You’ll have the ability to prioritise, work under pressure and handle multiple often complex and inter-related issues with conflicting externally set deadlines.
You’ll have proven experience of working in a regulatory role, either within or interfacing with Government, the energy regulator, or a similar external regulator or agency on aspects of competitive markets and operations including in particular consumer, social and environmental affairs, licensing and enforcement.
You’ll have thorough knowledge of how the regulatory policy process works and a comprehensive understanding of the political, regulatory and consumer landscapes, the interfaces and dependencies between each and the ability to use this to identify, evaluate and influence current and future risks and opportunities to minimise financial exposure and contribute to the achievement of strategic business objectives.
What’s in it for you
As well as a competitive salary which is reviewed annually, you can also enjoy a number of other benefits. With our pension scheme, we’ll double match your contribution up to a company contribution of 10%.
