Permanent Full-Time Office-based (Glasgow HQ)

Competitive Salary, with car allowance, private healthcare, and annual bonus

Help us create a better future, quicker

We are looking to recruit a senior Planning & Property Solicitor into a newly created position to join the ScottishPower Legal Team supporting our SP Energy Networks business in securing the required consents and land contracts for multiple new strategic investment, reinforcement, customer connection and network investment/upgrade projects across each of its licence areas.

SP Energy Networks is a Distribution and Transmission Network Operator. We keep electricity flowing to homes and businesses throughout Central and Southern Scotland, North Wales, Merseyside, Cheshire and North Shropshire. Our role is to facilitate the decarbonisation objectives and choices of our customers, communities and stakeholders, and to enable their journey to Net Zero.

Roles & Responsibilities

On a day-to-day basis, you will be responsible for providing legal support in respect of all strategic consenting matters for example: -

  • Managing the legal support for consenting aspects of SPEN’s existing and new development, planning or property projects.

  • Managing and leading the preparation of and conduct of public inquiries, hearings and written submissions relating to obtaining local or central government planning, statutory, development and other consents or permissions required by SPEN including support on consenting elements of the compulsory acquisition of land rights for any developments on SPEN’s network.

  • Supporting teams (including the SP Energy Networks Land & Planning team, members of the Executive Team, employees of SPEN, external advisors or consultants as well as government at a local or central level along with all other relevant other statutory bodies or governmental organisations) in relation to the strategic projects which SPEN is involved in.

  • Providing commercially pragmatic and robust legal advice to all aspects of SPEN to facilitate the objectives of the business.

  • Supporting the development of the legal and environmental land and consenting strategy across multiple strategic investment and network reinforcement projects.

  • Conducting legal analysis and providing support and advice on detailed consenting applications for new infrastructure within SPENs licence areas.

  • Legal review of environmental statements across differing legal jurisdictions.

Lawyers within the SP Energy Networks Legal team (and the wider ScottishPower legal team) are viewed as being key members of the project teams and work in close conjunction with key support functions to the business such as the Land & Planning Team. You will have the autonomy to identify, and lead in the implementation of, innovative legal processes and best practice.

You will have regular contact and on-going working relationships with senior managers and executives across the SP Energy Networks, ScottishPower and Iberdrola Group.
