Plant Technician

We are looking for an experienced technician to join our team in the Isle of North Uist. As a Plant technician you will be responsible for operating, running and maintaining our state-of-the-art Rendering plant.

Who are we:

Our North Uist facility aims to ensure a full circle renewable process for the by-products of the fish farm industry. The plant recycles the by-product into oil used for bio diesel, condensate liquid for fertilisation of machair land, and MBM for combustion in our furnace and at other facilities. Now in the latter stages of commissioning we are looking to expand our team, specifically for someone to fill the exciting role of Plant Technician.

Job description:

Plant technicians will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the site, its plant and equipment. The role requires adaptability in performing various responsibilities, including cleaning, basic maintenance, using mobile equipment, and conducting quality control, to ensure that uninterrupted operations are consistently maintained. One of the responsibilities of technicians is to keep an eye on mechanical devices and control screens to make sure the plant is running effectively. They must also report problems and help the engineering team with routine maintenance and repairs. 

An alternating shift pattern will be in place when the facility is operational with nightshifts allocated on a rotational basis, however, the role will be predominantly Monday-Friday. 

 

Key skills required:

-Proactive nature and passion towards hands on mechanical jobs.
-Ability to communicate effectively.
-Able to perform manual handling tasks.
-Hands-on flexible attitude.
 

Key responsibilities: 

-Monitoring of equipment, including mechanical parts of the process. 
-Completion of daily checks and plant assessments.
-Ensure Health and Safety regulations are always adhered to.
-Operation of a variety of mobile plant (full training will be provided).
-Cleaning and routine maintenance of equipment and site.
  

 

 

 

Requirements

Experience required:

The ideal candidate will have a background in a technician role and will be competent with power tools, workplace vehicles and warehouse equipment. Experience in a busy fast paced environment is essential, and practical acumen is also desirable. Knowledge of the engineering sector would be extremely beneficial, those with an agricultural / aquaculture background will be looked at favourably too.

Ideal qualifications:

Forklift license.

First aid at work.

Full UK driving license.

 

 

Starting salary: £27,000 – £35,000 dependent on experience.
