AQUACULTURE VETERINARIAN

As part of Ocean Ecology, you’ll join our aquaculture team and benefit from direct involvement in one of the world’s primary fish health networks through Åkerblå – a DNV company. With the collective expertise of over 70 veterinarians and aqua-medicine biologists, our goal is to establish a leading competence centre in Scotland, offering exceptional opportunities for both professional and personal development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This role will be pivotal not only in providing advice and services, but also in developing opportunities and world leading practices within our fish health unit. The candidate will also play a key role in facilitating two-way knowledge transfer between the UK and Norway.
Operational tasks will include:
• Monitoring fish health at various aquaculture sites, covering all stages of the life-cycle.
• Monitoring and quality-assuring delousing operations, vaccination, hygiene inspections, and other fish health-related tasks.
• Facilitating the development and production of biosecurity and fish health management strategies and plans.
• Teaching and training best Aquaculture practices.
• Investigation of specific fish health related events and subsequent reporting.

Requirements
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:
• Veterinary degree recognised by the RCVS
• Ability to prescribe in the U.K.
IDEAL CANDIDATE:
• Service-oriented with professional integrity
• Enjoys fieldwork, remote location working, and being at sea
• Thrives in a varied and challenging work environment
• Independent, structured, and passionate about the field
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written
• At least 2 years’ experience as a fish vet
• Sound understanding of the various regulatory regimes applicable to finfish aquaculture in Scotland, especially those administered by the Fish Health Inspectorate (FHI) and the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA).
