Vacancies – 2 x Holiday Park Site Managers
We are recruiting for two permanent staff members for the 2025 season and beyond, to fill the role of site managers for our small family-owned holiday park. We want to work with people who are passionate, with a can-do attitude and strong work ethic, and who would appreciate living in this fantastic part of Scotland.
These roles would suit a couple, friends who can work together, or two individuals who are willing to share accommodation with a coworker.
Set in the heart of Glencoe, we have a small number of static caravans, eco cabins, a log cabin, 16-bed bunkhouse, lodge and cottage. We welcome a wide range of guests from all over the world, ranging from families and friends to outdoor enthusiasts to charities.
We are open year-round, so these are permanent jobs (not seasonal).
What you’ll be doing:
• Day-to-day management of the site
• Cleaning accommodation between guests – this is the majority of the work, particularly in summer
• Maintenance of the accommodation (handyperson tasks – basic skills desirable)
• Maintenance of the grounds (lawn mowing, hedges, fences, etc – basic skills desirable)
• Laundry and ironing (using roller iron – training provided)
• Customer Service – answering the phone, managing the booking system, and answering emails (training provided)
• Guest interaction – friendly exchanges and sharing of local knowledge with guests on-site (your natural cheery disposition desirable!)
• Ordering of stock (cleaning products, guest welcome packs, etc)
• Out-of-hours on-call between working days (4 nights a week)
• Depending on the candidate, some admin tasks such as uploading receipts to our accounting software
• Anything else reasonably expected to keep the business in top shape!
Both staff members will be needed to clean properties daily during the busy season, as this is the majority of the work. Other duties can be split between the staff members to fit with expertise, interest and skillsets, e.g. one focused on maintenance, one focused on customer service and laundry, although we encourage flexibility in responsibilities to ensure business cover.
Please note that it is not possible to split the work where one person does all the cleaning and laundry and the other person only does maintenance – this doesn’t fit with the balance of demands of the business.
The work can be quite physical - you’ll benefit from a daily work-out changing beds and folding sheets! You’ll also need to be physically capable of climbing on to the top bunks in our bunkhouse to clean.
The nature of the job is that during working days, there is an element of being ‘always on’ as you’ll be on-call to customers. For example, guests may need help with the hot water not working at 8pm, or can’t work the key in the lock on arrival, or want to phone to make or check their booking. We need staff members that can meet each challenge with a smile on their face and a can-do attitude.
While we don’t expect you to remain on site all the time while on-call, you will need to be somewhere nearby unless otherwise agreed.
What we’re offering:
• Year-round work
• Option for free accommodation provided on site (2-bedroom fully-heated static caravan), with a small contribution to bills
• Minimum 5 hours work daily, guaranteed (10.00am - 3.30pm with a half-hour lunch break) x 5 days a week, Thursday – Monday (there may be some flexibility with days off if it’s two friends or individuals who do not require time off together)
• Additional hours are definitely required during the busy season up to 8 hours daily/40 hours weekly. Our busy season runs from May to September, with a fairly busy shoulder season in April and October.
• Weekend work required
• Two (weekday) days off a week – concurrent days where possible and together where possible if a couple – exact arrangements to be agreed on appointment to the roles
• On-call during working days – managing the phone and any on-site problems during on-call hours 9am-9pm (and emergencies outside these hours). In reality, there is sometimes nothing to do, other days will feel more demanding. Most commonly, it’s around 10 minutes an evening. Calls after 9pm are rare (and are limited to those staying on site).
• Pay: £13 per hour (with free accommodation if needed)
• End of season bonus (based on business and individual performance)
• Holidays accrued per hour of work (roughly 5-6 weeks a year) – ideally to be taken outside of school holidays (our busiest periods)
• NEST pension scheme
Who we are looking for:
We are open to different types of arrangements for staffing, whether couples, friends, or two individuals who don’t already know each other.
• Previous experience desirable, but quick learners with the right attitude considered
• Accommodation offered, local applicants also welcome. Please note we don’t have facilities for a permanent camper van on site.
• Enthusiastic and friendly
• Reliable and able to work unsupervised
• Able to problem-solve and use own initiative
• Take pride in your work, offering great service and high standards.
• Can communicate in English to a high level.
Please note that the roles may not be suited to those with dependant children due to the nature of the hours required (weekends and school holidays) and the lack of childcare available locally.
About Us
We (Cat and Phil) took over in September 2023, so we’ve got a year under our belt now, and are still learning lots too! We have a young family and live on-site. We do all the background running of the business, and the big picture thinking (we have longer-term development plans). We do get involved in the day-to-day when required, while balancing with childcare needs. We need support for the day-to-day running of the site, predominantly accommodation changeovers and maintenance.
Heart of Glencoe Holidays is based right in the middle of the mountains in a stunning area of the West Highlands – a great base for exploring on your time off. There is an award-winning pub just down the road with regular live music events, and loads of outdoor activities (walking, climbing, cycling, kayaking, skiing, etc.) on the doorstep.
We like to provide guests with comfortable, affordable accommodation, with a few little extra touches to brighten up their day.
You can learn more about the business at our website: https://www.heartofglencoe.co.uk
To apply: Please send CVs to cat@heartofglencoe.co.uk. We are happy to have informal chats over the phone first: ring Cat on 07757 542956. Please also feel free to note your interest in the roles while you take time to prepare your CV if you’re not able to apply instantly.
Start date: mid-end January if possible, to allow for a handover with the outgoing staff. Dates in February considered for the right candidates.
