We are seeking a talented and experienced Buyer to join the Procurement team. The Buyer will be responsible for placing purchase orders, negotiating best prices for materials and sourcing new products and suppliers to meet the company’s operational requirements.

ALVANCE

Established since 1929, ALVANCE British Aluminium, part of the GFG Alliance, owns and operates the last remaining aluminium production plant (smelter) in the UK and a connected hydropower electricity generation station located on the slopes of Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain. A combination or renewable energy sources makes this site one of the greenest metal production plants in the country.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Support the Procurement manager and other stakeholders in relation to supplier issues, communications and concerns which may impact on the business operations.
  • Executing end to end procurement processes including data collection, spend analysis, negotiation and contract award.
  • Assist in the source of new vendors, resolves conflicts concerning materials or services at the department and vendor levels.
  • Provide detailed analysis against cost savings and cost avoidance.
  • Work closely with the Procurement manager to deliver Value added service to internal departments and stakeholders ensuring an ethical approach.
  • Achieving and reporting on savings and efficiencies achieved with costs including spend and scrappage.
  • Communicating across functions and departments on procurement related issues and processes including expediting and schedule of delivery.
  • Monitoring and managing performance of suppliers against contract performance indicators.

  • Adhere to health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of self, staff and visitors
Requirements

KEY SKILLS

  • Experience in similar role would be preferable, but an essential quality would be a commercial outlook and the ability to operate in a role that has many different aspects
  • CIPS membership, studying CIPS or a willingness to study CIPS would be advantageous

HOURS OF WORK

Standard hours are 8.30 – 5.00 Mon – Thurs and 8.30 to 1.30pm on a Fri, although flexible start /finish times are available
