Salary from £54,800, up to 15% Annual Bonus and Health Cover
Flexible Working Pattern
Help us create a better future, quicker
ScottishPower Renewables seeks a highly motivated Engineer for the position of Senior Wind Resource Specialist within the Offshore Wind Engineering Department.
At the end of 2024, Scottish Power/Iberdrola had around 2.4GW offshore wind capacity installed, with plans to increase the offshore wind capacity to about 6.5 GW by 2030 thanks to significant global investment, looking also constantly for new platforms of development.
Therefore, the Senior Wind Resource Specialist will be working as part of a global business with activities in many countries across Europe, USA and the rest of the world.
What you’ll be doing
As Senior Wind Resource Specialist, you will be responsible for delivering state of the art expert technical support in the areas of wind analysis, energy yield assessment and wind measurement within the Offshore business.
You will initially be involved during the pre-FID and construction phase of the EA1N project (and wider EAHub projects). You will be involved across the full life cycle of the ScottishPower/Iberdrola Offshore Wind portfolio, which includes early opportunity identification, basic development and detail design during operational and maintenance phases.
Accountable to the Wind Resource and Metocean Manager within the Site Engineering department, you will be accountable to different Project Engineering Managers and collaborate with several other technical services teams (e.g. Development Team, Wind Turbines, GIS, Foundations, Package Managers) in the development of Offshore Wind projects.
Working as part of a global business with activities in UK and several countries across continental Europe (Germany, France) and rest of the world (APAC, America) may require travel to various locations in the UK and overseas, requiring management teams working at different project locations within a multicultural environment.
What you’ll bring
The main functions and activities of the Senior Wind Resource Engineer will include:
Carry out pre-construction energy yield assessments and site suitability studies for Offshore Windfarm from early-stage opportunity identification to final investment decisions
Wind data analysis based measurements and simulations through the use and/or development of wind resource analysis tools
Specification and procurement of data, wind analysis and wind modelling studies (based on mesoscale models)
Design wind turbine layouts in collaboration with other teams (GIS, Engineering, Wind Turbines, Foundations) in compliance with best-practise, design standards, site constraints, and permit requirements
Scoping, tendering, management and monitoring of Offshore Wind measuring campaigns, generally based on remote sensing (Floating LiDAR or other)
Preparation of climatic conditions reports together with Metocean Engineers, providing detailed meteorological conditions information (including turbulence and extreme analysis) for site-specific design of support structures (for Wind Turbines and Offshore substation), the evaluation of site suitability of the Rotor-Nacelle-Assemblies (RNAs), providing information required to support transport, installation, Operation and Maintenance strategies
Review and provide comments on site suitability reports supplied by turbine manufacturers
Evaluation of power curves and turbine performance information, including technical support in turbine supply negotiations related to power curve warranties and other features related to AEP (turbine upgrades)
Scoping, tendering, management and monitoring of power curve testing campaigns with nacelle LIDAR
Post-construction energy yield analysis and other ad-hoc studies based on SCADA data
Providing ad-hoc support and advice to projects as required
Participation to R&D activities in which the team is involved, representing SPR-Iberdrola on task forces and research programs at industry level
Participate to the development, maintenance and application of internal specification, procedures, documentation and tools
Ensure that appropriate lessons learnt are captured and shared across the different Offshore Projects and work packages
Maintaining awareness of the latest technical and commercial developments to identify suitable new technology that has the potential to reduce cost and risk or improve safety
Developing and maintaining relations with new and existing consultants
Ensure that Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are fully considered and adhered to in design, ensuring compliance with legislation and industry best practice
Specification, management and critical review of independent third-party wind energy yield estimates to support offshore project
