We are seeking a Chief Engineer to lead our technical team, oversee product development, and support the performance of in-service products. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and dynamic engineering leader to make a significant impact in the renewable energy sector.

Reporting to the General Manager for Product Circularity the Chief Engineer and based at our Innovation Centre in Lochgilphead you will manage a small, talented team to deliver new products and ensure the continued performance of in-service products. You will oversee the entire lifecycle of recirculated products, from initial development through production, and provide technical support to optimise performance.

What You Will Do: Key Responsibilities:

Health & Safety: Ensure your safety and that of others affected by your actions is protected.

New Product Development (NPD): Approve concepts, work scopes, and instructions for refurbishment, reverse engineering, and design changes. Ensure technical adherence of outsourced products and approve new suppliers for specific products.

Technical Support for In-Service Products: Investigate product failures, provide resolutions, and improve product performance. Oversee non-conformance investigations and approve closure actions.

Programme Management: Coordinate technical projects, ensuring resources, budget, and schedules align with business goals.

Team Leadership: Recruit, lead, and develop the R&D team while managing day-to-day operations and priorities.

Process Ownership: Define, improve, and ensure adherence to the New Product Development process.

Quality Management: Uphold strict adherence to our Quality Standards.

Continuous Improvement: Drive initiatives that enhance processes and efficiency.

Requirements

Expertise: Strong understanding of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems. With expertise in all phases of the product development lifecycle.

Key Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. Minimum 8 years of engineering experience, including product development and failure investigations. At least 2 years of experience in the wind/renewables sector. A proven track record of leading or supervising teams for at least 2 years.

Exceptional programme management skills: A history of delivering on time and within budget.

Analytical and problem-solving capabilities: A focus on decision-making and customer satisfaction.

Highly organized: Experience managing multi-functional teams and prioritizing competing demands.

Results-driven: Comfortable managing risk and driving change.
