The Environment Ranger role is based in Mid-Argyll and covers a variety of terrain from Atlantic rainforest to hill tops, and species from white tailed and golden eagles to globally rare species of lichens and bryophytes. In a friendly and supportive team, Environment Rangers work collaboratively to inform and build mitigation plans for forest operations. They also create work programmes for conservation benefit, such as invasive non-native species control, to enhance designated sites.
Environment Rangers spend a large proportion of time in the field undertaking pre-operational checks such as pre-harvesting to identify and protect environmental features, monitoring of habitats, such as Plantations on Ancient Woodland Sites (PAWS) and priority open habitats, whilst reporting on conditions and management needs and will work with other forestry colleagues to programme and deliver this.
To be successful in this role you will have demonstrable experience in surveying and monitoring of species and habitats, including working on remote sites with challenging terrains, and possess good knowledge of the habitats and species found in Scotland’s forests.
