Cothrom Og Childcare Manager

Cothrom Òg Nursery is looking for a Childcare Manager to lead our warm, community-focused service for children aged 3 months to 5 years. You’ll support high-quality practice, curriculum planning, and compliance, working closely with the wider Cothrom team. An SSSC-recognised qualification and PVG membership are essential.

Cothrom Òg Nursery – About Us

Cothrom Òg Nursery provides childcare and early years education for children aged 3 months to 5 years. As part of Cothrom Learning Centre—a local charity supporting learning and community development across South Uist—we offer a warm, welcoming, and community‑focused Gaelic Medium environment for children and their families.

Why Work With Us?

We’re proud to be a relaxed, supportive workplace where staff wellbeing really matters. The Nursery Manager leads the day‑to‑day running of the nursery and works closely with the Cothrom CEO to stay connected with the wider adult learning and community programmes. Strategic planning and financial management are handled by the CEO and Board of Directors, allowing the Nursery Manager to focus on what matters most: supporting children, families, and staff.

We also offer an exceptionally generous leave package, helping you maintain a positive work life balance:

Hours: 28 hours per week
Salary: £39,546 per annum (FTE), pro‑rata to £28,392 for 28 hours per week
Hourly rate: £19.50/hour
Annual Leave: 36 days FTE, pro‑rata to 26 days for 28 hours per week

Gaelic Language

Fluency in Gaelic is desirable, but it’s absolutely not essential—what we value most is a willingness to learn. We’ll support you fully on that journey. As part of the wider Cothrom Learning Centre, we have Gaelic language support available on‑site, giving you lots of opportunities to build your skills in a friendly, encouraging environment.

Professional Skills & Qualifications

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring a solid understanding of the professional frameworks that guide high‑quality early learning and childcare in Scotland. You should have knowledge of:

  • Curriculum for Excellence
  • National Care Standards
  • Realising the Ambition
  • The Quality Improvement Framework for the Early Learning and Childcare sector

The ability to plan and deliver a meaningful curriculum—through short, medium, and long‑term planning—is essential, and you’ll be supported by a friendly, experienced team who share ideas and work collaboratively.

It is essential that you hold a qualification that meets the SSSC requirements for practitioners/managers. If you don’t yet meet this requirement, that’s okay—we’re very open to supporting the right person to gain an appropriate qualification while in post.

This post is subject to membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme in respect of regulated work with children.
