Renfrewshire Council is an ambitious local authority, committed to continuous improvement and to innovative excellence in procurement, focusing on the efficient and effective procurement of around £300 million in purchased works, goods and services each year.

The Procurement team is part of the Finance & Resources service, underlining the importance of our contribution to the Better Council strategic change programme.

This post will be in the procurement team supporting construction related activity for major infrastructure/building projects including the Council’s ambitious Learning Estate Programme. You would report to the Strategic Category Manager and collaborate with a team that values strategic thinking, energy, and governance. Knowledge of NEC and SBCC contracts would be an advantage but is not essential.

If you think you could make an energetic and effective contribution to the team, and understand the governance required for public sector procurement, you should apply for this post. You would be a key team member, helping to deliver the strategic aims of the Council.

It is essential that you are educated to HNC level or equivalent in a relevant subject, or have/are working towards MCIPS. Additionally, you must have experience of delivering procurement projects; ability to develop and implement procurement strategies; ability to negotiate and award contracts in accordance with procurement policy, procedures, and strategy; ability to develop and implement appropriate stakeholder relationships and experience of delivering and managing commercial contracts. Appropriate knowledge of relevant markets, products, and services (construction) is also essential and to be able to identify changes and developments in the marketplace and their potential impact on the Council.

It would be desirable to have experience of working within public sector procurement along with knowledge of Procurement Law and a good depth of experience at buyer level within a dynamic Procurement function.

If successful, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure Scotland check, the level of check will be determined by the duties of the post. If you would like further information in relation to the Disclosure Scotland checks, please visit www.disclosurescotland.co.uk.
