Job Summary
East Dunbartonshire’s Children’s Services are committed to providing services for children and young people in need of care and protection and improving outcomes. East Dunbartonshire are embedding the Promise, UNCRC, GIRFEC and the new Child Protection Guidance into the trauma informed service we provide to the children and families in our area. The Safe and Together Model is being embraced and rolled out across the Local Authority.
As part of the Whole Family Wellbeing Fund we are looking for a committed and enthusiastic Social Worker to work within our Children’s & Families Fieldwork Team. You will be part of a team and culture that is committed to improving outcomes for the children and young people we work with. Your role will be based around early intervention and response to wellbeing concerns, including providing professional advice and guidance to education colleagues, individuals, families, and groups within the community. Within term time you will be linked with a local secondary school and associated primary schools at a point of transition. The post requires good assessment skills and ability to engage with children, young people and their families in stressful times. A sound knowledge of policy and legislation is essential and an understanding of assessment of needs and effective interventions. The Social Worker will work in partnership with other agencies, in particular youth development workers and Local Area Co-ordinators to meet the needs of children and their families. This post is likely to include development of community based group work within the priorities of the Whole Family Wellbeing Fund.
You should have excellent written skills which need to be of a high standard and excellent verbal skills to ensure appropriate representation at meetings You should be able to engage with people of all ages and backgrounds in order to help them get the best from East Dunbartonshire Social Work Department. You should be able to deal with difficult situations with patience and kindness and uphold SSSC values.

PVG/Disclosure Scotland
The following criteria applies to all roles within East Dunbartonshire Council where PVG/Disclosure checks are essential criteria.
Where the post you are applying for is considered a Regulated Role under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020, successful candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check, prior to confirmation of employment being made by East Dunbartonshire Council.
Please note, successful candidates will be expected to meet the cost of the relevant check which will be deducted from the successful candidate’s first salary payment. Successful candidates who withdraw their application after the check process has started will be invoiced for the cost of the check.
In specific circumstances the payment could be deducted in instalments from an employee’s wages following commencement of employment. Approval in such circumstances will be made by the HR &OD Manager.
Should an employee leave in advance of the payment being deducted, the full amount will be deducted from the employee’s final salary.
The criteria outlined above will apply to existing employees of East Dunbartonshire Council who apply for roles for which a PVG/Disclosure check is required.
