Catering Coordinator - The Kettle Garden Cafe at Dunollie Museum, Castle and Grounds

Dunollie Museum Castle and Grounds is an independently run charity based 2 miles north of the town of Oban, on the west coast of Scotland. We are recruiting a Cafe Coordinator to Oversee the smooth day to day operations of the Kettle Garden Cafe, situated within the Castle grounds.

Purpose of the Role

The purpose of this role is to oversee the smooth day to day operations of the Kettle Garden Cafe, our busy outdoor café situated in the grounds of Dunollie.  Producing and selling high quality local and seasonal food, drinks and homebaking to visitors to the Castle and local customers.   This is a seasonal role which begins in February and ends at the end of November.

Responsibilities

                Planning and preparing the daily food menu

                Producing high quality baking to sell in the café

                Food Hygiene overview and record keeping

                Ordering/maintaining stock and supplies

                Ensuring excellent customer service and maintaining the positive reputation of the Kettle Garden Café.

                Coordinating the small team of Catering Assistants during opening hours.

                Serving customers during opening hours, including making coffees and other hot drinks, with the help of Catering Assistants.

                Cater for and produce menu’s for evening events

 

Hourly Rate

We are a Real Living Wage Employer.  Pay is currently £14.00 per hour but is under review

Contract

This is a seasonal role, from February to November.

Hours

Up to 40 hours available, flexable schedule would be considered for the right candidate

Requirements

About you

Essential Requirements

·       Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan, prioritise, and manage daily café operations.

·       Demonstrated commitment to maintaining high standards of food hygiene and safety (e.g., Food Hygiene certification or willing to obtain).

·       Experience in a busy café, hospitality, or food-service environment, including food and drink preparation.

·       Skilled baker with the ability to produce a range of high quality baked goods

·       Knowledge of allergen management and best practise

·       Experience in preparing and serving quality coffee and hot beverages, with an interest in developing skills further.

·       Ability to work independently and reliably, especially when opening/closing the café.

·       Excellent customer service skills, with a warm, welcoming attitude.

·       Cash-handling skills and experience using a till or point-of-sale system.

·       Ability to work outdoors and adapt to changing weather conditions.

·       Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment.

Desirable Requirements

·       Café management experience

·       REHIS Food Hygiene Certificate (Intermediate level)

·       Passion for coffee, matcha, specialty drinks, and cafe culture, with an interest in menu development.

·       Experience supervising or coordinating a small team.

·       Barista training or equivalent hands-on experience.

·       Knowledge of local produce or interest in sustainable, seasonal food.

·       Experience working in a visitor attraction, heritage site, or similar environment.

·       Creative flair for presentation, café displays, or improving the visitor experience.
