Applications are invited for the post of LAS STR in Accident & Emergency. Post is available from 3rd August 2016. This post is based in Raigmore Hospital, which is the principal Emergency Department in the Highlands providing Accident and Emergency services and Primary Care Out of Hours Treatment Centre (OOHTC) to Inverness and the surrounding catchment area of around 120,000 people. The hospital is also the secondary receiving service for the Highland area covering over 10,000 square miles. Applicants must be on the General Medical Council Specialist Register at the time of the interview. In 2004 a new £3.2m, 1000 sq metre, Emergency Department opened on the Raigmore Hospital site. The department has a 4-bedded resuscitation area with overhead gantry, 11 treatment and examination rooms, and a dedicated paediatric waiting area/treatment rooms, a dedicated seminar room and staff room. The primary care out-of-hours' services is co-located within the department and provision of medical care is integrated. The department is a designated major accident and radiation incident centre and has dedicated decontamination facilities. It serves a population of approximately 300,000 distributed over a very large area, which poses particularly interesting challenges in the delivery of health care. The hospital is equipped to an extremely high standard, with full diagnostic facilities, a modern Postgraduate Centre, excellent library facilities and the Centre for Health Sciences is on site. The LAS posts will not attract training recognition from the Post Graduate Dean but you will work alongside and receive similar experience to those on the training programme.
