The Department of Neonatology is looking to appoint 2 Clinical Development Fellows to be based in Aberdeen Maternity Hospital on the Foresterhill Campus. The successful candidates should have completed their Foundation programme and be keen to expand their skills and knowledge of Neonatology and Paediatrics. The post is advertised as a 12-month contract. However, shorter rotations may be considered upon mutual agreement.

The post is contracted for 40 hour per week - 36 hours per week plus out-of- hours commitment on average will be spent in the department of Neonatology contributing to the junior rota including an out of hours commitment as well as attending clinics and/or special interest sessions such as Neonatal transport and accessing high quality training in practical Neonatal procedures. 12 hours per week on average will be protected for developmental activities such as Medical Education, research and quality improvement.

The successful candidates will receive support from the NHS Grampian Medical Education team in collaboration with the University of Aberdeen to develop in one or more of the following areas – medical education, simulation, research, quality improvement or medical leadership.

An Educational and Clinical Supervisor within the department will be provided to the candidates to ensure a high quality educational experience whilst contributing to the running of a busy and challenging service. Clinical duties will include looking after Neonates on the Postnatal wards within Aberdeen Maternity Hospital, in Special Care, High Dependency and Intensive Care within the Neonatal Unit and attending births within the Labour Ward and Obstetric Theatre where babies are expected to require some Neonatal resuscitation. You will also have the opportunity to attend Neonatal clinics and there will be the possibility of arranging some observer sessions within General Paediatrics. You will be encouraged to carry out a quality improvement project during the post.

There may also be some opportunities to witness specialist activities such as Neonatal Echocardiography as well as attending unit governance meetings including risk management meetings.

The department of Neonatology is a busy unit serving an Obstetric service with over 6000 deliveries per year. You will join a team of 8 Consultants, 4 Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, ST and Specialty Doctors in Neonatology.

There is an active postgraduate teaching programme with regular NRP (neonatal resuscitation) courses run in house. However, it is not recognised for training by the Postgraduate Dean.
