Background Information

Mid Scotland Workshop provides a safe and economical repair and service for all vehicles, machines and equipment within the Mid Scotland Workshop area for the Forestry Commission. This covers the geographical area of:
'Cowal & Trossachs Forest District
'Tay Forest District
'Scottish Lowlands Forest District
'Perth Conservancy
'Central Conservancy
'Roads (Survey vehicle)

Purpose of the Job

The new post based in Cairnbaan will cover stores duties, and assist in the repair and maintenance of light vehicles, machines and equipment for West Argyll fleet. Cairnbaan Workshop presently has a very large fleet to support (approx. 300 items); including 70+ vehicles, 4 harvesters, 4 forwarders, and numerous other sundry equipment.

Key Work Areas

The new post will contain the following Stores duties:
'Opening Job Cards on DRIVE Fleet Management
'Ordering machine and vehicles parts for emergency breakdowns
'Track paperwork and query outstanding invoices
'Input data into DRIVE Fleet Management
'Assist in the day to day store duties

The post will also contain the following Workshop Assistant duties:
'Assisting Mechanics - machine/vehicle servicing & repairs
'Hydraulic hose manufacture
'Deliver/collect vehicles for MOT
'Repairing punctures
'Replacing tyres
'Deliver urgent spares to machine operators
'Deliver/collect vehicles to/from dealers for warranty repairs (Glasgow and Stirling)
'Carrying out low tech repairs - Trailers, Sundry VME
'Workshop maintenance

Experience and Professional/Technical Expertise

Person Specification


'Experience in a trade involving the use of power and hand tools
'Proven ability to resolve technical problems
'Able to demonstrate a good appreciation of Health & Safety at Work regulations, and working practices
'Must be computer literate


'Trade Qualifications in a suitable technical trade involving use of measuring, technical drawings, parts books, hand tools, power tools, ordering parts etc.
'Previous work experience within a motor vehicle workshop or industrial environment
