An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Speech and Language Therapist to join our enthusiastic, dynamic and well-established team in a remote and rural setting.

The post holder will provide speech and language therapy input to an extremely diverse caseload, primarily for adults but also including children who live in Orkney. The post holder will provide therapy for adults with swallowing disorders as well as acquired communication disorders. In addition the post holder will also support children with a diverse range of speech language and communication disorders. The post holder will be well supported by 3 very experienced specialist colleagues in the department.

The successful candidate will have a degree or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy/Pathology and two years experience working with clients with a variety of communication impairments.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work autonomously and flexibly are essential for this post as is the need for the post holder to hold a full driving licence and access to a car. The post involves travel to islands by plane and ferry.

Lying off the northern coast of Scotland, between John O'Groats and the Shetland Isles, Orkney is an archipelago of over 70 beautiful islands, 17 of which are inhabited. The total population is approximately 22,000 with most people living on the Mainland.

The excellent ferry and air connections make travel to the Scottish mainland quite easy.

There is a rich archaeological history to be explored, as well as many outdoor pursuits, including diving in Scapa Flow, kayaking, walking, cycling, bird watching, and many more. Orcadian culture is rich, with music and arts and crafts well represented. The St Magnus Music Festival in June is internationally renowned.
