Applications are invited for this full time post of Consultant Medical Oncologist based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, with 1 day per fortnight at Dr Gray's Hospital in Elgin.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the current team of 4 Medical Oncology Consultants and 8 Clinical Oncology Consultants (1 post currently vacant). It is anticipated that the successful candidate will have a major interest in Upper Gastrointestinal Tumours and will develop the service within the context of the current interests of the department. In addition, the post holder will have a key role in Sarcoma.

The department has 5 Specialty Registrar posts (2 in Medical Oncology and 3 in Clinical Oncology). It is envisaged that the successful candidate will have an important role as educational lead for the department and will work closely with the educational supervisors and programme leads to provide an exciting and progressive educational program for the department.

The post holder will take part in the on-call rota for the Adult Oncology service (this will change to a 1 in 12 on call once the post holder is in post).

Aberdeen Royal Infirmary serves a population of approximately 620 000 and is located at the Foresterhill site, together with the University of Aberdeen Medical School, the Aberdeen and North East Scotland Transfusion centre, Roxburghe House, the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital and the Aberdeen Maternity Hospital.

The dedicated Oncology Inpatient Unit opened in 2013 and comprises 29 beds. The Oncology Outpatient Department and Day Therapy Unit were refurbished in early 2014. A new Outpatient and Day Therapy facility, with state-of-the-art Aseptic Unit, the ANCHOR centre, is due to open by 2020 and will be immediately adjacent to the new Radiotherapy Unit.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of interview or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR).
