Job Description The Marine Superintendent reports to the Executive Manager - Ferry Operations and is a member of the Service Management Team. The Marine Superintendent provides information and advice to the Executive Manager to support service and directorate decision taking and the provision of support to Elected Members in determining the Council's overall strategic objectives and priorities in relation to Ferry Operations. Key activities and responsibilities include: Contribute to the development of Ferry Operations strategy and plan. Contribute to the provision of Best Value through reviews of service objectives, targets and operational delivery methods. Contribute to the redesign, development and improvement of services to better meet the needs of customers and deliver the priorities and objectives of the Council. Manage staff to achieve the customer focused, effective and efficient delivery of the service plan, service improvement and outcomes required in accordance with agreed specifications, service standards, performance targets and costs. Maintain awareness of best practice, new techniques and relevant legislation to inform service improvement and the development of the Council's policies and practices. Maintain a positive, people centred organisational culture to support effective delivery of the Council's obligations, priorities and objectives and consistent with the Council's vision and values Requirements The grade of this post is Grade M Salary shown in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £1,998 per annum Permanent Full Time post for 37 hours per week, 52.18 weeks per year. For further details relating to this post, please contact Craig Robertson, Executive Manager on 01595 744888 The Individual Must be educated to STCW Code Reg II Master Must have 3 or more years experience within maritime industries Must have experience of Implementing and/or managing Safety Management Systems subject to external audit. Must have knowledge of best practice in the service area and of specific aspects of service delivery e.g. application of the ISM Code, STCW, international Conventions and regulations pertaining to EU Domestic Passenger Ship operations. Superintendency or Marine Management experience of delivering Marine Operations Services is desirable. Marine Superintendency or Marine Management experience of operating and of command of sea-going vessels (preferably Ro-Pax or RoRo) is desirable.
