Work Pattern: Monday-Friday 6 hours per day
Supervised by the Educational Audiology Manager the post holder will provide sign language interpreting in a variety of settings, assisting in the development of communication support services for deaf and professional support for staff. The post holder will develop the sign language skills of staff/parents/learners.Requirements Educated to SCQF level 6 which includes Highers or SVQ level 3 or equivalent Qualified in British Sign Language (BSL) to at least Level 3 Member of SALSA/CACPD Experience of supporting communication in a variety of settings (Embrace technology & information) Ability to travel throughout Fife Ability to register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) within 6 months of taking up employment in this role (Early Learning Centres/Primary and Special schools only) and must complete the required Post Registration Training and Learning (PRTL) over the registration period; Basic IT Skills.
Before confirming appointment, you will be required to obtain a Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme Membership through Disclosure Scotland.Responsibilities
As a Deaf Communication Worker, you will be responsible for:Providing communication support to enable access to education and services for children, young people and their families. Providing sign language interpretation support to other members of the team and others. Offering advice and training for education staff. Link with other Deaf Communication services within Fife. You will have ability to demonstrate tact, sensitivity and patience within this role and will have the ability to offer support in a sensitive way while maintaining confidentiality and a professional approach. Being familiar with specific technologies for each subject (e.g. computers, flashcards, number lines) along with problem solving and communication skills are essential for this post.
