We are a Social Work Statutory Mental Health Service based within Dumfries and Galloway Council, Children, Young People & Lifelong Learning (CYPLL) Service.

A regional team of MHO Social Workers supports delivery of this service, across the four localities in the Dumfries and Galloway Region.

As the team supports a regional service, there will be a requirement to respond to cross region work demands when required.

Duties of the post include full participation in the Regional MHO Day Time and MHO Out Of Hours Rota. All members of the team must hold the post graduate Mental Health Officer Award.

Candidates will have the BA / Diploma in Social Work or equivalent and will hold the post-qualifying award for a Mental Health Officer appointment. The post holder will be a Mental Health Officer who can demonstrate particular expertise and knowledge in relation to the role and responsibilities of the MHO across Mental Health and Adults with Incapacity legislation. You will have experience in partnership working and a working knowledge of relevant policies and procedures, the role of the Council Officer and MHO in Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act and an understanding of the Appropriate Adult scheme.

You will have excellent communication skills and take a flexible and creative approach to problem solving as well as being able to balance a wide range of priorities/ legislative timescales, whilst keeping focused on your objectives.

A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
