Role Profile ROLE DEFINITION

To deliver high quality instrumental teaching to pupils within the service and contribute to the professional corporate life of the Music Service in relation to pupil, parents, staff and Educational Establishments.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Corporate Responsibilities

To deliver an effective education service in accordance with the Council's corporate policies and procedures and relevant strategy provision. To understand information management and security issues and work in line with legislation and Council policies and guidelines, ensuring that information is used, shared and managed appropriately. To undertake any other required duties, consistent with duties detailed in Part 2 Section 2 of the SCNT Handbook of Conditions of Service, in accordance with the working time agreement, and as directed by the Executive Director (Education and Youth Employment) or nominee, in addition to the role specific tasks & responsibilities detailed below.

Role Specific Tasks & Responsibilities

The provision of music instrumental teaching on a group and individual basis. Preparation of pupils for performance and examination. Plan and prepare deliver appropriate course materials for pupils. Assess, record and report on pupil progress. Maintain pupil profile records. To maintain instruments where possible and keep an up to date inventory. Teach the whole range of instruments appropriate to your role. Maintain good order and discipline among pupils and to safeguard their Health and Safety. Maintain good communication with colleagues and Education Establishments. Direct bands, orchestras, choirs and ensembles within the context of the working time agreement, including transposition and orchestration where necessary.

Education and Qualifications

Degree in Music, or equivalent Qualification in Instrumental or Vocal Teaching, or equivalent, accredited by a university, conservatoire or national training body Application Form Interview

Experience

Experience of teaching at all levels. Demonstrate successful, inspirational and motivational teaching. Experience of working within schools Experience of conducting and rehearsing a whole ensemble or coaching sections within that ensemble Application Form References Interview

Specialist Knowledge

Understanding of learning and teaching Knowledge of repertoire and resource in their specialist and associated instrument family Awareness of current curricular developments, including Curriculum for Excellence and SQA and National Qualifications. Knowledge of specific learning and teaching techniques within the instrumental family.

Skills and Abilities

Ability to create a coherent and progressive pathway of study showing an understanding of short, medium and long term planning. Ability to prepare complex teaching rotas, maintain records of work, prepare reports, record and prepare evidence to support pupil learning Ability to adapt and learn new skills to ensure each individual is catered for and able to progress Commitment to engaging in professional development activities Ability to maintain standards of student behaviour and motivation Ability to self-evaluate and reflect to continually improve personal practise and pedagogy. Ability to communicate with colleagues both within Educational Establishments and the Music Service. ICT skills Arranging and orchestration of Music. Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team.
