Learning Assistant (Temporary)

Lochmaben Primary is seeking to recruit a Learning Assistant to work 15 hours per week, 39 weeks per year to support targeted interventions on a daily basis with specific groups of identified pupils.
These interventions would essentially be working with individual pupils or with small groups and have been identified as part of our School strategy for the Pupil Equity Fund allocated from the Scottish Government. The focus areas to be targeted are providing Nurturing activities, working with pupils on activities to develop their Working Memory and supporting the development of Numeracy & Literacy by using the Number Box resource and the Literacy Toolbox. Full training will be provided in all of these targeted interventions.
You will be expected to support pupils with a range of additional support needs, including learning needs, medical diagnosis and social and emotional needs. You will follow the duties as outlined within the job description.
You will hold qualifications at Standard Grade Level 3 (or equivalent) in English and Maths and have prior experience of working with children and young people.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
This is a temporary post for a period of up to 1 year. This post may be suitable for secondment. Agreement from your line manager must be sought before applying for this post.
