Job Description

To work with and provide care and support to service users with a range of disabilities or frailties who may exhibit a variety of challenging behaviours posing a range of physical and emotional challenges, or require urgent care

Responsibilities To provide direct support to service users who exhibit challenging behaviour to manage the behaviour and to enable them to participate in a wide range of therapeutic and social activities. To uphold social work values and to ensure good working practice. To promote the independence and develop the skills of service users and assist with all tasks necessary to ensure positive life experiences. To work positively with other agencies, parents, carers, and other services to ensure a quality provision of care for service users. Develop and contribute to the maintenance of service user records and support plans and act as a key worker when required. To ensure that the living environment of the service users is clean and appropriate to meet each individual's needs. To participate in regular and ongoing training relevant to the needs of the service users. Health and Safety. The Individual Practical experience that would give the post holder insight into issues in relation to working with people with a disability/frailty.

SVQ level 2 (or equivalent) in Social Care or willingness to work towards.

Standard grades or equivalent at level 3 or above inc English and Arithmetic/Maths.

 Willingness to undertake further training as required.

 Evidence of continuing professional development

A range of practical skills in order to engage with service users.

 Sound Observational Skills.

 Ability to work as part of an effective team.

 Active listening and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with service users and staff at all levels.

 Experience of community participation.

 Self confident and self motivated

You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various locations within Moray to meet the operational needs of the service. Due to the rural nature of Moray this is normally undertaken by use of a car/ van/ minibus

 Knowledge of Social Care Values.

 Knowledge of Housing support Standards.

 Ability to form positive relationships with service users, colleagues, parents and other agencies.

Sensitivity and understanding of discrimination and health and well being issues.

 Ability to respond appropriately in difficult or challenging situations.

 Ability to record information accurately

Ability to remain calm in a crisis.

 Ability to reflect on own practice.

 A resilient and assertive nature.

 Flexibility, empathy and approachability.

 Ability to work effectively as part of the support team and in multi-disciplinary settings.

The ability to engage service users in activities and participation within their home and in the local community.

Willing to accept direction/ delegation.

Flexible approach to work patterns and bases and ability to work within a shift based rota system.

Ability to carry out duties that involve personal care of service users.

Ability to carry out moving and handling duties in accordance with moving and handling regulations and risk assessments

Temporary for 1 year
Closing Date: 21 July 2017
Starting Salary: £17,417 (pro rata)
£9.24 per hour
26 Hours per week
