Role Profile ROLE DEFINITION

The Roadworker will be responsible to the Senior Manager, Depot Manager or other designated officer for ensuring that the work team carries out, in the proper manner and at the proper time, the instructions given to them. The Roadworker will work as part of the work team and carry out the normal duties applicable to his/her grading.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Corporate Responsibilities

To undertake individual role in line with the Council's Strategic Priorities and in compliance with the Council's corporate policies and procedures. To undertake any other reasonably required duties as instructed by Management or someone acting on their behalf, in addition to the role specific tasks & responsibilities detailed below.

 Role Specific Tasks & Responsibilities

Participate in the Council's winter and weather emergencies service and be on stand-by for out of hours service provision. Safe use and operation of tools and equipment, including 18 tonne vehicle. Undertake and complete work according to instructions received, generally as part of a team. Use of specialist plant, equipment and materials where required. Ensure all group or individual tasks are completed as appropriate. Undertake work according to the appropriate Safe Working Methods ensuring that any site specific restrictions are complied with, allowing all work to be carried out in a safe manner in accordance with current legislation and Departmental Procedures. Assistance with the completion of worksheets ensuring they are completed accurately and on time. Assistance with the completion and verification of all quality control sheets. To undertake other duties, from time to time as may be required and as instructed by the Senior Manager or someone acting on their behalf.

Education and Qualifications

SVQ Level 2 and SVQ Level 3 Roadworks. SVQ Winter Maintenance or equivalent. Application Form Interview

Experience

Ability to demonstrate experience in road construction, road maintenance activities and drainage works. Experience of using specialist road maintenance vehicles, plant and equipment. Supervisory experience. Experience of major roadwork contracts. Winter Maintenance. Application Form References Interview

Specialist Knowledge

Knowledge of construction methods and materials. Health & safety Safe Working Methods. Safe Working Practices. HAUC Operatives Certification. Traffic Management Sector 12D Certification. IOSH Working Safely. Application Form Interview Pre/Post-Interview Check (if appropriate)

Skills and Abilities

Must have an LGV Category C driving licence. Good oral cummunication skills. Ability to complete all relevant work sheets. Ability to interpret contract drawings and specifications. Ability to operate powered tools and equipment. Ability to supervise and direct a roadworks team. Ability to using levelling equipment. IT literate. Application Form References Interview
