West Dunbartonshire Council is investing in its office accommodation to improve the working environment of staff and enhance the service provided to residents. This post has been identified as one which will move from its current location (Aurora House, Clydebank) to one of the new office sites (New Dumbarton Office, Dumbarton) within the next 6-9 months. Applicants are asked to note the interim location and the new location for this post.
West Dunbartonshire Council are seeking a proactive and self motivated person to join our Development Management Team as Planning Compliance Officer. West Dunbartonshire Council is one of the smallest planning authorities in Scotland, and our small Development Management Team handles a varied and challenging caseload of planning applications.
The Planning Compliance Officer will play a key role within the team in ensuring that development is carried out in accordance with its planning permission, and that unauthorised development is identified and responded to appropriately. You will be responsible for investigating and resolving a broad range of planning compliance and enforcement cases, in accordance with the service standards set out in our Enforcement Charter. Most breaches of planning control are resolved through negotiation, but in situations where formal enforcement proceedings are appropriate you will gather evidence where necessary, and prepare and serve the relevant statutory notices.
You are likely to be either an experienced Town Planner, or to have extensive experience of working in an investigatory or enforcement environment such as policing or statutory compliance. You should have excellent communication and customer service skills, including the ability to deal with developers and objectors who will often have strong and conflicting views, and who may be unhappy with planning decisions. A significant proportion of your time will be spent visiting development sites, and the ability to drive would be advantageous. The Council operates a paper light office environment, and you should have good IT skills and the ability to keep thorough and accurate records.
This is a part time position equating to two and a half days per week, but the precise work pattern is not fixed and will be agreed with the successful applicant. The Council operates a flexitime system.The Individual
