An exciting opportunity has arisen with the Family Learning Team within Aberdeen City Council. We are now recruiting for four new Family Learning Development Worker posts. To work specifically with parents of children aged 3-12 years old in each of the 4 primary schools (Bramble Brae, Manor Park, Tullos and Riverbank). These will be fixed term posts until the 31st March 2018 with a possibility of continued funding beyond that date. 

Job Purpose

To identify and engage families to support sustained involvement in learning, which is mainly focused on working with parents with children aged 3-12 years old. To enable parents and carers to support their children’s learning, development. The post holder will contribute to the development and delivery of responsive family learning programmes, to support personal growth through experiential learning and skills development either on 1-1 home support or group basis. Engaging and working with families and other agencies in the regeneration areas of Aberdeen City.


The post holder is expected to demonstrate

Experience of working with and supporting adult/family learners (1-1 in the home support desirable)

Facilitate personal and social development and active citizenship through provision of learning programmes and activities.

Ability to relate well to adult and family learners

Clear and honest advice and guidance for families

Experience of developing and delivering learning programmes either on a 1-1 or group basis.

Ability to communicate with a wide range of professional staff from a variety of disciplines and agencies.

Proven communication skills.

Time management, resources management and organisational skills.

Ability to maintain accurate records.

ICT skills.

Experience/knowledge of planning and evaluation processes.
