Whiteness Primary School is a non-denominational school located in Whiteness. It provides Early Years to P7 education for children from Whiteness and Weisdale and the surrounding area. The structure of the school is an ELC setting offering flexible Early Learning and Childcare for 3-4 year olds for up to 6 hours a day 5 days a week and 4 composite primary classes. There are currently a total 106 pupils on the roll. The school is managed by a Head Teacher. The current staffing complement is 4 teachers assisted by support staff as required to meet school demands. The current Head Teacher is Mrs Rachel Colclough. Early Years Assistant

As part of the pre-school team, the Early Years Assistant will assist in delivering a high quality education and care centred service that meets the needs of young children and their carers.

The Early Years Assistant will also work closely with the Early Years Worker and/or the Teacher in ensuring a safe, hygienic and pleasant environment where mutual trust, respect, confidence and a caring ethos are evident, in accordance with current legislation.

In accordance with the Scottish Social Services Council; all Social Work Service workers must adhere to the following Codes of Practice:

Protect the rights and promote the interests of service users and carers; Strive to establish and maintain the trust and confidence of service users and carers; Promote the independence of service users while protecting them as far as possible from danger or harm; Respect the rights of service users while seeking to ensure that their behaviour does not harm themselves or other people; Uphold public trust and confidence in social work services; and Be accountable for their practice and take responsibility for maintaining and improving their knowledge and skills.

Additional Information The grade of this post is E/F Rate of pay shown in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £1.0608 per hour This post is career graded - your salary and career progression will depend on your experience and qualifications Permanent Term Time Part Time post for 35.0 Hours per Week, 40.5 weeks per year plus 6.27 weeks (pro rata) paid holiday to be taken during school holidays Preferred candidates will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update prior to a formal offer of employment being made The successful candidate will have to complete registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) within 6 months of the agreed start date A relocation package does not apply to this post We will pay interview expenses from within Shetland The successful candidate will be subject to satisfactory Pre-Employment Medical screening with our Occupational Health provider.
