An opportunity exists for a highly motivated individual to job share within the Trading Standards Service for West Lothian Council.
The successful candidate will hold the Diploma in Trading Standards, or equivalent, and be able to act as an Inspector of Weights and Measures. Applications welcomed from experienced or newly qualified officers. A wide knowledge of trading standards legislation is essential, together with excellent written and oral skills.

The key duties of this post are:To be a contributing member of a team engaged in the delivery of the Trading Standards service. To initiate, plan, implement and/or participate in projects where appropriate. To inspect a range of trading activities (physical and on-line). Providing advice and guidance to traders to enable them to comply with the requirements of consumer legislation. Test, examine and sample goods, records, services and marketing Test and verify the accuracy of weighing and measuring equipment used for trade. As required, to contribute to the preparation of relevant service plans and ensure delivery of services in accordance with the objectives, targets and standards within the plan. To act upon one's own initiative. To identify problems and apply corrective actions within a work area without the need for constant direction. Keep appraised of changing trading practices and legislative, technical and political developments as they affect the Trading Standards service.
The skills and experience you must have:Qualified with the Diploma in Trading Standards or equivalent and be able to act as an Inspector of Weights and Measures. Wide knowledge of Trading Standards legislation, application and administration. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Post qualifying experience of work in a Trading Standards service. To be able to work on one's own initiative, without the need for constant direction.
