So, if you are age 16-19 (prior to 30 September 2017), live in North Lanarkshire and want excellent experience and a recognised qualification, then this opportunity could be for you.
Working within North Lanarkshire Council Health & Safety team, you will be involved in all aspects of health and safety management. An essential part of this apprenticeship will be to gain valuable on the job skills and training and to complete a Modern Apprenticeship SVQ Level 3 in Occupational Health and Safety within a set timeframe; therefore, knowledge of the content of this award would be desirable.
A minimum of 4 standard grades, at bands 1-3 / 4 National 5s, at band A-C (both including English and Maths), or equivalent, is essential. Alternatively, you may have 4 standard grades, at bands 1-3, and possess, or currently be studying towards, a NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety. In addition to good IT skills, it is essential that you are articulate and possess good written communication skills. A Computing standard grade, at bands 1-3, or equivalent, is desirable.
You must be able to give practical examples of when and how you have demonstrated team work and you should have an awareness of, and a genuine interest in, health and safety procedures, therefore, any previous work experience in this area would be advantageous. You should be enthusiastic and have a positive approach to your work and completing your SVQ Level 3. You will have the ability to deal with a variety of enquiries and to prioritise your allocated workload. You will have the ability to maintain excellent timekeeping and be a keen team player.
During the course of the programme, you will be expected to visit a wide range of workplaces including construction sites, schools and operational properties. In addition, you will assist the health and safety officers to deliver training courses to employees of the council.
Interviews will take place on August 2017.
