Early Years Worker - Modern Apprenticeship, Social Services (Children and Young People) SCQF Level 7

Various Locations throughout South Lanarkshire 

Hours - 37 hours per week

South Lanarkshire Council have Early Learning and Childcare Centres and Nursery Classes in local primary schools throughout South Lanarkshire. Modern Apprentices will gain skills and knowledge while working with babies, young children and families.

Modern Apprentices will have opportunities to learn all aspects of childcare as well as gain an understanding of current guidance for working with children and young people, such as Child Development, Curriculum for Excellence, Together We Can, Building the Ambition and the value of Play.

Examples of what Modern Apprentices do;

Encourage and support children’s development through a variety of play activities. Be responsive to children’s needs. Encourage children’s creativity Work as part of a team. Engage in outdoor play with children

Modern Apprentices are supervised and trained in nurseries by qualified staff. They are also required to undertake an SVQ in Social Services Children and Young People at SCQF level 7 and attend regular classroom based training sessions.

 

Requirements

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS.

Three passes at National 5 or three passes at Intermediate 2 or three passes at Standard Grade Credit Level. One of these must be in English. Preferred Core Skills in Numeracy SCQF level 5, Information and Communication Technology SCQF level 5, Communication, Problem Solving and Working with Others SCQF level 6 High standard of communication skills, both written and spoken. Successful completion of pre interview questions Willingness and ability to study and achieve SVQ in Social Services Children and Young People SCQF level 7. You must have access to a laptop or computer as all SVQ work is done in an electronic portfolio.

You will also be required to meet the registration requirements of a Practitioner with SSSC.

Responsibilities

Employment History/Foreign Police Check

Candidates should be able to detail any gaps in employment and provide a foreign police check where applicable for any periods living or working abroad.

This post is excepted in terms of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 2003.

The successful candidate will be subject to a criminal records check provided by Disclosure Scotland.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children.

Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check, prior to a formal offer of employment being made by South Lanarkshire Council.
