The Department of Law Economics Accountancy and Risk at Glasgow Caledonian University seeks a Lecturer in Accounting to contribute to teaching in the area of management accounting. This is a key area of strength for the University, with a flagship undergraduate programme, the BA Accountancy and postgraduate offerings in the areas of Accounting and Finance.

 

As such, the successful applicant will work as part of a close-knit programme team and be expected to teach and manage modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level, take on leadership roles as appropriate and engage in further development of the subject area. This will be within the specialities of management accounting, and in engaging with related subject areas such as financial management.

 

Whilst any areas of accountancy are welcome, we particularly welcome applicants with demonstrated strengths in the areas of management accounting. Applicants must possess relevant qualifications in the subject area, and have demonstrated experience of teaching to the wider academic or professional community, working as part of a team and have an interest in contemporary scholarly and research in this subject area. .

Main purpose of the role

The main purpose of this role is to deliver teaching and learning, and to develop the international profile of the department and its programmes.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities of the role Teach Management Accounting subject on undergraduate and postgraduate modules; Design, develop and deliver a range of teaching materials for study at various levels; Provide a significant contribution to the School’s suite of accounting and finance programmes, including module leadership when required; Contribute to curriculum and portfolio developments to ensure market relevance, and academic rigour; Undertake supervision of dissertations at UG and PG levels; Contribute to research and /or scholarly work within the discipline area; Contribute to industry engagement activities within management accounting Person specification

Educational and/or Professional Qualifications

E1 – PhD and/or Professional qualification in an appropriate area

D1 - Industry experience in accountancy profession

Experience

E2 - Experience of teaching (lectures, seminars etc.) small-to-medium sized groups.

E3 - Experience of designing and administering coursework and examinations.

E4 - Flexibility and the ability to work independently and to use own initiative.

D3 - Experience of working in the accountancy sector.

E5 - Research or scholarly interests consistent with the strategic direction of the Department

E6 - Ability to play a leading role within a team environment and to motivate colleagues
